Day of the Week:
Arriving at DARPA
The DARPA CAC Administration Office is located at 675 N. Randolph Street, Arlington, VA. Non-DARPA personnel are required to check in with the Visitor Welcome Center (VWC) upon arrival. Due to the length of processing time required, please allow approximately 20 minutes to get through check-in.
There is no parking available on site or along the street at DARPA for Non-DARPA personnel. We recommend using the Ballston Public Parking Garage located directly across from the front entrance. The cost is $1 for the first three hours.
What to Bring
New CAC / CAC Renewal
If you are getting a new or a renewed CAC:
You must bring two (2) valid forms of ID.
See "Acceptable Forms of ID" below.
Also be ready to provide a PIN number. See "PIN Reset" below for guidance.
PIN Reset
If you are resetting your PIN on an active CAC:
You will be required to unlock your CAC by matching your fingerprints. If you are unable to unlock your CAC with your fingerprints or have had trouble in the past:
You must bring two (2) valid forms of ID.
See "Acceptable Forms of ID" below.
Have ready a six (6) to eight (8) digit number to use as a Personal Identification Number (PIN). It should not be a number derived from something easily known about you such as part of your SSN, birthday or anniversary date of you or a family member, telephone number, or address.
Email Update
The DARPA CAC Office will not process a CAC if the email address on the individual's record in DEERS is not their own. Please verify that your email address is correct with your Trusted Agent prior to scheduling an appointment with the DARPA CAC office. The only circumstance where the DARPA CAC Office will update an individual's email address on their CAC will be to change it to a .mil or a .gov address.
Acceptable Forms of ID
All IDs must be unexpired and in their original form. One of the IDs must bear a photo (e.g. passport, driver's license, CAC). For reference, see "LISTS OF ACCEPTABLE DOCUMENTS" on the I-9 Form.
If you were born outside of the United States, you must bring one of the following:
- Birth Certificate (For US Citizens born abroad)
- Valid US Passport
- Naturalization Certificate
- US Government Document (normally issued by the Department of State) stating you are a US citizen
Replacing a Lost / Stolen CAC
If you have lost or have had your CAC stolen, report it immediately to your chain of command and/or the nearest RAPIDS Site. Documentation must be presented to confirm that the CAC was reported to the local security office or CAC-sponsoring agency. Therefore, prior to being issued a new CAC, the Sponsor will need to provide the VO with one of the following acceptable documents:
- Police Report
- Report from installation security office
- A statement or document as provided by the Service or agency (e.g., counseling document); or
- Letter or memorandum from the activity's security manager, the individual's supervisor, or the sponsoring TASS Trusted Agent
Note: The letter or memorandum, which can be typed or handwritten, must be prepared on the activity's Letterhead, dated, and signed with a wet signature or digitally signed using a CAC.
If there are any problems or questions, please contact the DARPA CAC Administration Office at 571-218-4270 or email the CAC System Administrator.
